Contact goniometer with fixed limbs (silver and blued steel, outside diameter 7.5 cm).
Signed "Vinçard Paris".
Arnould Carangeot (1742-1806) commissioned Nicolas Vinçard (1741-1788) to construct his first contact goniometer, in 1782. Vinçard produced them in brass and in silver.
This instrument must be dated 1782-1788.

Contact goniometer hinged at the 90° graduation (brass and steel, outside diameter 10.2 cm).
Signed (on the back side) "Pixii Neveu et Succ[ess]eur de Dumotiez à Paris", first half 19th century.
Nicolas Constant Pixii-Dumotiez (1776-1861), nephew of the Dumotiez brothers, was one of the foremost constructors of physical instruments of the 19th century.

Louis-Joseph Deleuil was an engineer-optician and scientific instrument maker who founded his company in 1820.

Samuel Lewis Penfield died in 1906 at the age of 50. The instruction leaflet mentions "Late Professor in Yale University" which dates the set after 1906.
